The Dengue IgM Antibody test is a simple procedure designed to detect a recent Dengue infection through blood sampling. IgM antibodies are created when the immune system is fighting the Dengue virus and then detected by this test. This test is important because it can confirm early Dengue fever, especially if you present symptoms like high fevers, headaches, joint pain, and rashes. Early diagnosis can help prevent complications like Dengue Hemorrhagic fever or shock syndrome.
Process
- A small blood specimen is drawn from a vein in the arm.
- The specimen is tested at a facility using either ELISA tests or rapid test kits.
When to get tested
Testing should be done if you exhibit Dengue symptoms, and if it has been at least five days since your fever began. Testing is also to be recommended in an outbreak of Dengue, or in circumstances where you suspect Dengue testing but the:NS1 or PCR test is negative.

A blood sample specimen drawn from the vein of the arm. (3-5 ml of blood).
Test Preparation
No fasting, special preparation, or cleaning is required before the patient does the test. Alert your doctor if you have had any illness or vaccinations in the days leading up to the test.
Understanding Your Results
A positive result means that you have a recent or current dengue infection. If you receive a negative result but your illness is still occurring, you may be asked to repeat the test later. Whether a positive or negative test, follow up with your doctor to interpret the results and determine any further steps or diagnosis.
